EXCERPTS FROM TAPES FOR STUDY, PRACTICE, AND MEDITATION

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7 - at THE INN OF CHICAGO- 11:00 A.M.

JOEL S. GOLDSMITH: THE 1956 HOLLAND CLOSED CLASS*
“The Necessary Principles of Spiritual Healing,” CD 2

Now, that’s the secret. Everybody must eventually learn principles of healing, and not just have faith that God is going to do
something, because God isn’t. God isn’t going to do anything. God’s work is done since the beginning. God isn’t inventing
telephones and telegraphs and televisions these days, God’s work in that direction was done a billion years ago. We, today, are
coming into the awareness of those principles that have always existed. If we did not come into awareness of principles that
already exist, we could not have telephones or tape recorders or televisions, because nobody could create such principles. They
are principles which exist, have always existed, and now men discover them. They don’t invent them, they discover them.
So it is with this. God isn’t going to do anything for us tomorrow that God didn’t do yesterday. Whatever God is going to do
for us tomorrow, God did for us billions of years ago, but we are going to come into contact with God’s principles. Now, of
course, the very first principle is love, and so you can see that no healing is really going to take place in anybody who has the
same disposition today as they had yesterday. No. There must be a transformation take place within them that will bring them into
harmony with love. For love is the principle of healing, and if there is not love in one’s consciousness, there is no healing. But
love does not mean the emotion or sentiment that you feel for your family. That isn’t love. That is, sometimes, selfishness,
personal, sense. At it’s best, it isn’t love, because love is impersonal. In other words, love is a quality of God, and when God
loves, God loves the saint or the sinner, God loves the right or the wrong, the poor or the rich, the white or the black. When
God loves, the love of God is the same in the dandelion as it is in an orchid. We may set the price of a penny on one and a
dollar on the other, but God doesn’t. The love of God is equal, in the small and the great. We can know love by the universal
sense that we entertain. In other words, if we can consciously review the wrongs that we have suffered through individuals or
from a nation, and come to an absolute place of forgiveness, we’re experiencing love. Now, I don’t mean lip service forgiveness,
just saying, “Oh, I forgive you”, or,“I forgive them”. I don’t mean that, I mean coming to an actual feeling, in your own heart, of
complete release, to where you would wish to see not punishment but full forgiveness given unto all. Then you are entertaining
love. When you have the same desire for all of the children on earth that you have for your own children, that is a feeling of
love. But it cannot be lip-service. It has to be an actual demonstrated activity of your consciousness.

Question: “Would you please expand upon being safe to receive and allow the concepts to absolve?”
Answer: “When we are in the world, what is it that makes us feel unsafe in our mentality? [Unsafe in our mentality] really,
because we are talking ‘within,” we are not talking about anything out there in the world. What it is, to me, in contemplating this,
primarily, it’s judgement, having someone judge me. If I am going to open myself up to the Spirit, if I was going to sit down and
REALLY open myself completely to the Spirit, I would not want to be in an environment or a consciousness that is judgmental,
where someone would think that what I was doing would be wrong, or perhaps even sinful, or even evil, because I didn’t fit into
their concept of what spirituality is, or what being a good, moral person is. So, if I am really going to delve into the depths of my
consciousness, I want to be in an environment, in a consciousness where I have a sense of security in that I am not going to be
    judged.
Now, where does the most potent judgement come from? It comes from right within ourselves: “I’m not far enough along
on the path; I don’t deserve this; I should study more; Why do I think that I can reach this depth? Where is that judgement
coming from? It comes from? It comes from human concepts. It comes from the belief, that is the basic conditioning of mankind,
that I am separate from God, that I am not one with God, that there is God and man. Therefore, when I go into this
consciousness of experiencing the presence of God, I want to be in an environment , in an atmosphere where I know I can let go
of all judgement, I can let go of all concepts, I can let go of all sense of material limitations, and know that when I get into that
depth of consciousness where I feel that deep silence of My peace,  there is absolutely nothing attached to that which would be
a material or human precondition. There’s nothing I need do, there’s no ritual I need to perform, there is nothing I need do to
reach that inner depth. But if I am in an environment that is based on human concept, there’s a resistance there. It is like what we
were talking about earlier today, this resistance. The safety is being in that atmosphere where we have no resistance to the truth,
and we can really access it. Those moments of revelation, those moments of spiritual realization, are the foundation of our
spiritual life. We are always facing this world. We’re not going to be out of this world. We can try and materially create a safe
environment in which to meditate, and all that, but we’re never going to escape this world. We are never going to escape our
mentality, we’re never going to escape our bodies, and we’re never going to escape that sense of the world around us. We have
to deal with that. And how we deal with that is dependent upon our spiritual awareness.

VIRGINIA STEPHENSON: THE FEBRARY 2010 LESSON/ THE 2003 NASHVILLE CLASS
The 2003 Nashville Class, “Meditation on Spirit,” Tape 1, Side 2

Joel said he never understood what Mrs. Eddy meant by “reflection,” but when the mind is free of preconceived false
opinions, it’s a mirror -“As above, so below”- it reflects the spiritual realm. Now, there is no process to reflection, is there?
None at all. You stand in front of the mirror, and you see your image. And so, what we’re seeing is the image of this spiritual
creation. If the mind is free, your mind is free of the belief in God and man, God and dogs, God and cats, God and cows, God
and chickens, all these different forms, if you’re not looking at them from the standpoint of being an egg, then growing,
fertilized, and becoming a chicken, you’re looking at it as a finished kingdom, then, when you look up and lift up that one I or
Us, you image forth the Kingdom of God which is within you, and there’s no process to it. In the mental realm, metaphysical
realm, there’s always a process. Everything that’s mental and physical is a process. It begins with a seed and it grows. The
spiritual kingdom doesn’t grow, it IS, and it has always been. That first chapter of Genesis, God spoke and it was done. It was
finished. It never started with a seed and grew. The fields were filled and the trees were there, and they brought forth fruit. It
never says they were planted. It all already is finished, complete. But because of the infinite nature of creation, it continues to
appear because of its infinite Source. The source is infinite.
So, we clear our mind of all false judgements, “Judge no man after the flesh,” don’t judge your dog after the flesh, or a cat
after the flesh. They are all expressions of Life, Truth and Love. Don’t judge anything! You have never seen creation as God
made it. Now, that’s what you want to see, isn’t it? You want to see as God sees. So you have to lift up the I out of this finite
frame of reference, and get into a state of infinite Mind, in which there is no concepts, no desires, and no opinions, there is only
the recognition that all already IS.

    SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, at 259 Skyline Drive, Carpentersville, IL 60110 - 1:30 P.M.

JOEL S. GOLDSMITH; The 1956 Holland Closed Class
“The Necessary Principles of Spiritual Healing” CD 2

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me” [Exodus 20:3]. Thou shall have only one God. That means one power. You
cannot say that you have one power if you are putting power in disease; and if you are trying to get rid of it, you are putting
power in it. But if you would say  . . . “God alone is power. I cannot love God supremely and see a disease.” Do you see that?
And lack? There are people in holy terror because of some lack. Why? Why not rest and let the Divine Plan pick us up? And we’
ll find out there is no lack in the Divine Plan. But we’re putting such power in it, in order to fight it, that we are making it a
power to destroy us. When we give up the struggle -“Agree with thine adversary,” agree with thine adversary.
“All right, lack or limitation; all right, disease! So, here you are: now what? What can you do? ‘Thou couldst have no power
over me unless it came from the Father.’ There is but one power and that power is God.”
But, you see, all these people are trying to overcome the power of God.  They first accept their sin or disease or lack, and then
they say, “Now we’re going to get God to do something about it!” And you see, they must ultimately fail. They must ultimately
fail. That’s why so many of the metaphysical movements have failed, because they’ve all been based on “truth over error,” and
    that isn’t it.
. . . That is the whole secret of the people who have found their peace. It isn’t that they have found a weapon to use. There is
no weapon, is there? There’s not a weapon to use. They have found peace because they have found God to be the only power,
and then they let the fever and the lumps and all these things disappear. But not while you are battling them. While you are
battling them they are a creation of your mind, and you are perpetuating them. You are perpetuating them and trying to aim
bullets at them, but still holding them there. There is only one way to find your peace. It is foolish to say “find God,” because
you never will find God while you have an opponent. You never will! Nobody is ever going to find God while they have an
enemy to fight. You’ll only find God through love.

For Meditation: “The only truly spiritual life possible is lived by keeping our thoughts and deeds in at-one-ment with the law of
love – not a sentimental, emotional kind of love, not a nonsensical, wishy-washy kind of love. It must be the love that does unto
others as we would have them do unto us. That is all there is to real love.” – Joel, from THE GIFT OF LOVE

LUELLA OVEREEM: THE 1983 CLEVELAND CLOSED CLASS
“Meditation,” Tape 1, Side 2 (Side 1, Continued)

You take up the sword, you die by the sword. If you are going to live humanly, live by these material things, you’re
certainly going to die by them, because that is the ultimate of human belief, it’s what human belief consists of. It believes in
death, it believes in failure, and everything that humanhood is doing is leading it toward that goal of death, destruction, failure:
life, for a while, in between, but they are getting, as fast as they can, toward the end, which is oblivion. That’s just human belief.
And so, we have to turn around and let go of those beliefs, and put our trust in God. This is why we meditate. It’s to discover
what God is, what God’s will for us is, what God has given us, built-in. We have everything that there is already within us, but
we don’t know it. We think, judging by appearances,  that we’re just living out here with not enough for everybody, and not
enough, really, for anybody, because however good anybody is, or however rich they get, they still have all kinds of problems.
They can still, and do eventually, sooner or later, die of disease, or die of accident, or die of starvation. It doesn’t make any
difference. The human sense of good is limited, and it’s not complete, it doesn’t fulfill. So we have to drop all that, and put our
whole trust in this infinite Source that’s within us. But it isn’t any use, you see, if you have God, out there, and you, here. You
have to have the connection, you have to realize that God is not anything at all unless it is your own Self, unless it is available to
you. And I keep making that point, I guess, but we have to realize that God is our own Self, else it is no use for us at all … .
You can’t get truth from any place except from God within you. God is the only Way, the only One, that can reveal the truth to
you. You can study all the best teachings, and go all over the earth to the best teachers, and you aren’t going to get any truth
from them, from anybody. All you are going to get are words about truth; all you are going to get are directions, way-showing,
showing you how to get in There, that you have to get in There. But you don’t get any truth except from your own Self.

For Meditation: “The experience of eternity right here and now is the function of life. Heaven is not the place to have the
experience; here is the place to have the experience.” – Joseph Campbell

“Our Leader once asked, “What is it to love?” She answered her question thus: “It is always to see the man of God’s
creation and nothing else, and to separate from our thought of man any belief of fear or disease; this is Love.” Jesus
exemplified this Love when he “beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man
appears to mortals” (SCIENCE AND HEALTH, pp. 476-477). The Christ-consciousness never beholds a man who
needs forgiveness. The Christ-consciousness beholds absolute perfection always, and this is your consciousness.”
